Using the calculator
How to get a useful estimate
- 01
Use the normal sustainable output rate for the affected line or process, rather than its theoretical maximum.
- 02
Include salary, pension, National Insurance and other employment costs in the hourly labour figure where those costs are known.
- 03
Use contribution rather than revenue. This avoids treating variable costs that were not incurred during the stoppage as part of the loss.
- 04
For a fuller business case, add the costs that are specific to your operation, such as waste, overtime, expedited freight or service penalties.
Turn the estimate into action
Downtime is rarely just a maintenance problem.
The causes and consequences often span production systems, spreadsheets, shift handovers and disconnected information. Ferensway can help you understand that whole picture, then design and deliver a proportionate improvement.
